Headspace is an interactive robotic artwork with 256 independently moving rods in a matrix some 1.5m by 1.5m. The control system is loaded with 3D scans of 700 school students.   • Did you use 256 motors to individually control each rod?

  • Yes, there are 256 separate servo motors in this artwork, each one independently moving a rod back and forth.

  • Amazing work. What electronic component is used to push each block up?

  • I use custom made 3.5 turn RC Sail Winch Servos with a custom lasercut aluminium and steel slider setup to get the 400mm of linear movement with 128 increment resolution on each rod.
