Rather unsure what kind of spider this was ... there were many (30+) that we could see all around us, the sort of just appeared right after dark, this is on the Minnesota River near Mankato, MN in mid June ... any ideas? I would estimate that these little guys were silver dollar sized give or take a bit. Oh, and these spiders could (quite effectively, I might add) swim in the powerful river current with no problem, if that helps at all ... very interesting little guys!!!
Pretty sure that is called a Fishing Spider, also called a Dock Spider, found near slow moving waters / rivers. They're all over the Mississippi and St. Croix - not surprisingly, all over the docks. Had one land on my hand going through a lock and dam by Treasure Island. Not so fun.
That's a big one!
