According to MP, bands as "small" as DT don't really profit that much from the albums... they make their money off of the tickets to their concerts, the money from their record sales goes mostly to the record company and stuff.

As far as downloading music goes, I personally hate it. I don't care how rich you think the band is, the money they have won't last forever. they do have things they need to buy and most of them have families to feed. They have to pay taxes just like us, they're normal people just like we are. Stealing a song from them is like going to the doctor and getting a checkup without you or your insurance paying.

Speaking about the music downloading thing: while I do agree with Jordan on the fact that artists have to be paid for their work, I also think that there will always be the real fans out there ready to purchase. And illegal downloading wouldn´t be as much a threat if most of bands and artists would think about making music before making money.

@t3hgir Yeah, he's written some excellent music, and his contribution to DT is awesome, especially on SFAM, SDOIT and Octavarium. He brings a good balance to the sound.

I just think his lead skills are really overratted. He uses great takes on the albums but sometimes when he's playing live he doesn't look like he cares about the phrasing and articulation, just as long as he gets millions of notes in. Petrucci is pretty bad for that aswell, but he's generally a bit more creative with his leads.

Jordan does get pretty predictable with his solos and they do get very weedly. But he's always having fun, and ultimately I think his piano playing and his overall contribution to the composition of the music is worth it. He composed all of Six Degrees' Overture, which is a great piece of music.

Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess, progressive metals wankiest keyboard player.

He seems like a humble guy, and his contribution to the music is good, but his keyboard playing isn't that great. Live, his solos are just crappy predictable meedley-meedley-meedling for ages and it gets really boring. Liquid Tension Experiment are one of my favorite bands but he spoiled both of their live DVDs. Petrucci was partly to blame for one of them (can't remember which) but shone on the other.
