Giving them a cuttlefish to chew keeps thier beaks trim. Sadly unless you use branches in the cage, claws will get long and you'll have to cut the birds nails at least a couple of times through its lifetime; if you are not totally confident get a Vet to do it as birds have a vein running into the claw, if you cut it they will bleed as the dude says.. You can see it quite easily but you have to hold the bird VERY still - it can be quite a trial but it has to be done and they are happy afterwards!

My budgie Charlie was as tame as tame could be yet he HATED being handled, he would squawk and wail, struggle and bite.. Quite strange really as he loved to perch on my fingers, head etc. and loved to bite my fingers (a bit too much to be honest - he would often 'stalk' my hands and pounce on them when I wasn't expecting it!). Still, other birds like Goldie (a female) were totally cool with it - no struggling at all, it seems the boys dont like being picked up - I guess its a 'macho' thing! :)
