Today I'm going to register for an account in ARTstor, so I can benefit from some of the advanced functionality on the ARTstor Website.
It's pretty easy. First I will open a web browser and go to www.artstor.org, but before I can enter the Digital Library, I need to make sure I have turned off my pop-up blockers. ARTstor uses pop-ups in order to launch their database and to open up individual images.
So in FireFox I would find this under Tools, Options, and in the Content tab I would uncheck pop-up blockers. Now I'm ready to enter the Digital Library by clicking on the "GO" button.
On the right hand side of the screen I see a Register/Login heading. I do need to register, so I'll click on the register button.
This new window is asking for some basic registration information, First an email address so I will go ahead enter my will enter my school or personal email. Then I will create a 7 character password.
And below here, it asks if I would like to receive a survey from ARTstor. ARTstor usually sends these out only once a year, so that would be okay with me. Then it is asking if I would like to receive updates about, about new ARTstor content releases and tools. I think that would be very useful, so I will keep that checked as well.
Now all I need to do is to go down to the bottom and click on the register button. I get a conformation message letting me know all the new features available to me. Great, I can take images I've found and organize them into image groups, attach personal notes to images, and best of all, now I can use ARTstor from any other computer, even off campus.
