This is a video description of what my 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6 automatic is doing. It started to stall a month ago and i thought it was just a fluke. Then it happened once a week, then daily, and not it happens a few times a day. I have read many forums about it, Changed the IAC valve, and Crank position sensor. Checked MAP and TPC and both checked out fine. Other options is fuel pump or filter, though both are in the fuel tank. Havent been able to check cam pos sensor, but i would think that i would be having other problems than this stall issue if some of those other things are going out. Any ideas befor i take it to the shop?

  • Well it ended up bieng mainly caused by clogged cats. I cut the cats out and replaced them with straight pipes. Also found out that the truck was not going all the way back into first gear when stopping. I also replaced the tranny governer sensor and works great. Truck also runs fine without cats and O2 sensor. Just has engine light on. No biggie

  • It only stalls when i am in 2nd gear and under a load at a stop. Hopefully can get the governer sensor/solenoid replaced soon so that Drive starts out in 1st. Havent stalled since i ripped cats out and put in strait pipe, but drive still starts in 2nd.

  • Well, i changed the crank position sensor the next day, still had the problem. I figured out that my cats were clogged enough to choke out the motor and stall at the low rpm. The other thing that doesnt help is my transmission governor sensor and sileniod need replaced so drive starts in 2nd gear until i reach 2k rpm and it downshifts back to first. So that doesnt help things either. Riped the cats out and it doesnt stall unless i try to make it stall, probably because its in 2nd :P

  • I had the exact same problem on my 2002 ram van with 3.9 v6 in it. changed the throttle position senser and it never happend again. would stall out with any change in throttle(rpm) as it came back down. in reverse it would stall as rpms dropped back. and if it didnt stall it would bog down bad for a few seconds.

  • computer i had same problem

  • Did you ever figure out what was wrong. Same vehicle same problem.

  • you are most likey getting more air then fuel

  • did you check the o2 sensor

  • Throttle position sensor is bad

  • For one thing, your oil pressure looks kinda low for 30,000 miles. Get that checked out first IMO and see if whatever is causing the pressure drop. My 03 with 160,000+ miles on it (3.9 engine) has the oil pressure in the middle and a little to the right

  • Oh, one more thing.....It gets worse mileage than my full-size 1974 FORD LTD with a big 6.6L (400ci) V-8 with no OD!

  • I am seriously considering selling it or trading it in. I'd much rather drive my old 72 FORD F-100 that I rescued from the crusher!
