With the Queen's Gaels down 52-51 and six seconds to play, Brittany Moore (Hannon, Ont.) was fouled on a three-point shot by Carletons Courtney Smith of Ottawa. The referees awarded three free-throw attempts to Moore and a chance to take the lead. On her first attempt she missed, but sunk her second attempt setting up the unusual ending.
With Moore readying for her third attempt, Ravens Head Coach Taffe Charles miscounted how many shots had been taken and failed to send his squad back to guard for a rebound.
Moore missed her final free-throw, but easily scored her own rebound on an undefended layup. She was the only player within 10 feet of the basket.
It was totally my mistake, said Charles after the game. We didnt have any timeouts left so I thought Id get a timeout in without actually have a timeout. I lost count of how many shots were being taken. When I realized the third shot was being taken, I was like oh we are in trouble.
I just totally blanked out and no one was there to rebound, added Charles.
why did they not leave any guys back? =.=
