STANDING LONG JUMP TO VERTICAL JUMP[S]: - with variations
This a sequence of 3 plyometric drills. The first one the jumper is executing a dynamic two-footed standing long jump to a vertical jump over a single hurdle. The obvious progression is to include more hurdles. I wouldn't have more that 3 because I want to keep it absolutely dynamic. I want no drop-off in skill levels. I want those fast-twitch fibres working hard within a very short time span.
Again, land correctly and USE THE 'JUMP' ENERGY STORED IMMEDIATELY.
The last drill is where Gareth performs a standing long jump to land in front of a hurdle whose height is determined by the age and experience of the jumper.
He drives up and over attempting to get a full extension of the body. He lands in a quarter to a nearly a half squat position - HOLDS THIS FOR 2 SECONDS then drives into another standing long jump and repeats the process. I like this drill a lot as do all my group.
These drills can be adapted and refined for your own purpose and you are only limited by your own imagination.
