Memorial day at Margraten - 30 may 2010
Out of respect of the ones who fell far from home for our freedom
Music: 'Requiem for a soldier' performed by Catherine Jenkins
Clips from the series 'Band of Brothers'
Lyrics:

You never lived to see
What you gave to me
One shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty With a host of brave unknown soldiers
For your company, you will live forever
Here in our memory

In fields of sacrifice
Heroes paid the price
Young men who died for old men's wars
Gone to paradise

We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see we can live together
When all the world is free

I wish you'd lived to see
All you gave to me
Your shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty

We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see - we can live together
When all the world is free

  • Good video, a great tribute to all of the soldiers who are forever in Margraten.

I have (as a roaming photographer for AWON) a number of pictures of the Honor Guards and the Rifle Squad. Message me if you would like to have some digital copies.

  • @joost29115: Thank you very much for your comment. I just try my best to honor them with a little video-clip.

I will message you. Thank you for sharing.

  • My father's squad members lie in Margraten - 315th Infantry, 79th Infantry. Thank you in his memory.

  • @sharpeist: I think I have to thank your father and his men instead. Thank them!

  • May we all realize that Freedom isn't free, it's paid by death, blood, tears, sacrifices, and taxes. "That's what it's all about. No promises. No guaranteed survival. No saints in surgical garb. Our willingness, our experience, our technique are not enough. Guns, and bombs, and anti-personnel mines have more power to take life than we have to preserve it. Not a very happy ending for a movie. But then, no war is a movie. " Alan Alda as Hawkeye pierce.

  • @VFA103JollyRogers: a good qoute

  • @bbvasquez24: He then did a hell of a job, respect!

  • my husband is in the Honor Gaurd and he is one of the ones that stood in the rain holding the rifle for 2 hours ++ it was amazing and freezing

  • I was the lead rifleman on this particular firing party (2nd year attending). I do agree that all who endured the wind, rain and cold should be commended.

  • @colec3311: They were. And I have the utmost respect how the fellows with the flags stand in wind and rain for 2 hours. This ceremony is just awesome.

    Thanx for your comment.
