In deed, I know that perfectly, but the development of both languages (despite the fact to be cousins, in a way) has been so profound that someone could be surprise that the similarity could be preserve. French language is a romance language, but is not intelligible with spanish.

@JRDL1981 It's not a strange reason, both Spanish and Romanian are Latin languages.
