Mass Takeoffs
Air Power Demonstration
Fleet Flyby & Recovery

2008 NAS Oceana Airshow
NAS Oceana, Virginia
Sunday September 21, 2008

IN THIS VIDEO, watch as the aircraft that took part in the Fleet Flyby and the Air Power Demonstration take to the skies to prepare for their performances later on in the day. Following that, watch as Super Hornets from VFA-136 take part in the Air Power Demonstration. There was supposed to be an in-flight refueling demonstration to be conducted by a Super Hornet from VFA-11 "Red Rippers" and a Hornet from VFA-106 "Gladiators", but the Super Hornet did not take off as a result of a problem with the drogue unit. Finally, watch as the remaining Hornets and Super Hornets form up for the Fleet Flyby, with an added bonus of an E-2C Hawkeye flying just behind the Hornet formation and all of the aircraft recovering back to NAS Oceana. Keep in mind that there were performances between all of this, which included the jump teams and an E-2C Hawkeye demonstration, to name a few.

The participating aircraft in this Fleet included three Hornets from VFA-106 "Gladiators" and the remaining Super Hornets from VFA-11 "Red Rippers", VFA-136 "Knighthawks", and VFA-211 "Checkmates".

I apologize for the poor video quality, as I was trying my best to get the best video under VERY WINDY conditions, which persisted through Saturday night, but as you can tell in this video, the winds weren't as bad on Sunday as they were earlier in the weekend.

Like what you've seen? Well, if you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • Kevin will be missed..Probably his looking at us right now and has his wings.

  • Kevin will be missed..

  • The 2011 show is a bit less than a month away... I can't wait. :)

  • The engines is the sound of Jesus coming to kill the enemy, Go Navy!

  • so the Hawkeye was firewalled and the Hornets were just above stall speed?

  • I can't wait until I can actually see this in person. I've loved Hornets since I was old enough to know what one was and this is just amazing.

  • Long live the Tomcat!:)

  • The 2004 mass takeoff was the best Ive ever seen hands down. Each bird did a low tranny and pulled hard left. VF-11,VF-143 and VF-101 all had either Bs or Ds. That was mean hearing that deep groan the 14s made

  • thanksssssssssss
