North Korea Pardons Journalists During Former U.S. President Visit

Bill Clinton let North Korea's little dictator play the big man and flew home with the two American women journalists sprung early from imprisonment by the rogue Communist regime. Clinton's successful rescue bid marked a return to the international spotlight for the former President and also set the stage for a possible breakthrough on renewing nuclear disarmament talks with the U.S. While the White House emphasized the private nature of Clinton's trip, his landmark visit to Pyongyang to free the Americans was a coup that came at a time of heightened tensions over North Korea's nuclear program. A senior Obama administration official revealed last night that North Korean officials had told the women's families they would release them if Bill Clinton came. North Koreans claimed that Clinton brought a message from Obama, but the White House heatedly denied sending any back-channel communications. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters that "That's not true" and called Clinton's trip a strictly private, humanitarian mission. The White House cautioned not to expect a softening of the U.S. stance and that Kim should not expect a change in U.S. policy
