Mostly Tiraspol, this is a quick tour of a kickback to the Soviet Union in the breakaway territory of Transdniestria that no other countries recognize as being an actual country. Technically, this is Moldova. It's a last stand of Soviet communism, and these days, it doesn't seem very difficult to go there (compared to stories I've heard from a few years ago).

I went with a guide and a few people from my hostel in Chisinau, Moldova. It's a simple place, with streets and stores and most things you'd find anywhere, including a huge sports complex for the FC Sheriff Tiraspol.

We ended our day riding a couple of rides at the amusement park in Bender, which doesn't look like it's operational, but mostly is.

  • Did you have to bribe the border guards at the border crossing into Transdniestria? Is it really 50 euros as most websites tell?

  • @Pethy1 no bribery necessary when I went. I did go with some Chisinau locals who spoke Russian though, but other people I talked to who didn't go that route didn't seem to have any trouble. I didn't hear of some problems from people trying to enter from the Ukraine side, but none from the Moldova side.
