  • hi i have a question. my father once told me never put manure form a animal that eats meat in your compost or garden. this includes dog ,cat ,hog, or any carnivor.only use herbavor manure.reason is that composting wont kill the biactera that is in their manure. have you ever heard this before?

  • I have never been told anything bad about hog manure. But I have heard that dog and cat manure shouldn't be used on food crops. Its because of the parasites they can carry. I would be possible for them to be transferred to you by eating food grown in their manure. I do know of people that have used it with no problems though. You could also use it in flower gardens.

  • A great video. Your wood stove video help me to keep my fire going longer and heat it quicker. Thank you so much for this series.

    Peace.

    John.

  • In regards to dog/cat/even human manure, you can use it for food crops as long as it has had sufficent time to decompose. The process of decomposition will kill the parasites. I think I read 2-3 years minimum. I personally wouldn't use it directly in my garden, but i woudl for maybe trees/flowers.

  • thank you so much for all your vids they are very helpful

  • i use poultry, hog, and sometimes waterfowl manure(usually in the fall) (and all mixed with sawdust) i usually put alot on in the fall and then till it in through and then in the spring when i get my potatoes, onions, cucumber, beets, and turnip in the ground i usually spread about 1/8 of a inch to 1/4 inch on top of and every year i gets a good yield. any recommendations?

  • Heres a tip:

Anyone food gardening in the city should probably consider container gardening. Or at the minimum get a toxicity test on their soil. With the concentration of people, machinery and history most urban soil isnt clean.

  • I have used green manure in the past usually agricultural mustard, rye grass and buckwheat, This coming season I`m going to try dried peas, as they will fix nitrogen in the soil cover the surface of the soil to stop weed growth. The reason behind my thinking is that this year I transplanted autumm cabbage(Minicole) after my Peas(hurst greenshaft) and ended up with the best crop of cabbage to date, Thanks for you vidoes

  • I have heard the same thing as far as meat feed manure/fertilizer.

  • good info. Hope to see more of the garden ones.

  • well done - Mark
