We woke up this morning to the sound of an RC helicopter spraying what I assume is pesticide on the rice field outside our back window.

  • I came accross one of these on my way home today, being loaded onto the back of one of those ubiquitous white light trucks that Japanese farmers use. Alas I did not see it fly. Thanks for the upload.

I wonder if it really is cost effective, or whether the farmer just wanted a neat toy!

Apprently the Yanmar AYH-3 costs about 100,000 USD (9 million yen). Which is enough to purchase ten those little white trucks, or the cost of a farm house. Another one is the Yamaha RMAX at about the same $.

  • @timtak1 Oh, I'm sure it's not owned by the farmer. The fertilizing is a service he purchases, just like the planter and harvester.

  • Great idea! A better and more fun way to do the job.

Funny how the recording makes the blades look like they're moving really slowly too.

  • I have to say, that's a really cool way to do it.

  • stupid people!!!! pesticides are NEVER cool !!!!!!!

  • Nice video, I love those industrial r/c crop sprayers they're so cool.

  • @talbrech

Yes, come to think of it you are surely right. There was a woman and two men. I guess that they were the farming couple and the RC helicopter service provider.

  • That's one way to make some money back for our RC addiction, lol

  • The blades are giving it lift, and nothing else is giving it lift. frame rate of camera and rpms of heli sync to caude this illusion

  • camera frame rate causes a slow moving "effect"

its a piston engine not turbine

I know Yamaha makes an industrial RC Heli [not for hobby] just for this purpose

with rotor blades 9 meters long9[~12fee]
