  • @ulkord I love and practice both arts. JJJ is traditionally an all encompassing art: striking, throws, grappling, locks, weaponry, meditation, healing arts, etc. BJJ focuses on ground fighting and is derived from JJJ (hence the similarities). Fortunately, martial artists are constantly evolving (especially these days), and so the line is getting blurred. To our benefit :D. I'm not in a position to make a video, but feel free to message me if you're curious, ulkord. Ken, nice vid always.

  • @pcjudosambo i mean its probably more interesting but for now ill do the ground randori until i get better

  • @ulkord oh yeah, a lot more injuries standing up and a lot harder to stand up. there are a lot of physics involved (more than on the ground) when you're standing and grappling. It's not easy to off balance your opponent and take him/her down at will.

  • @pcjudosambo hmm until know i only made the ground radori. but sometimes the more advanced group starts at the standing position. probably because you cant really get injured with ground randori

  • @ulkord There are 3 types of randori in pretty much all martial arts... 1) standup only randori 2) ground only randori 3) combination of both (which you are probably doing).

If you do JJJ or Judo or Sambo ... it will translate very well into your BJJ because many of the techniques are same just different approach / setup / goal.

  • Can you breakdown the one he did against matt hughes in the second fight

  • @pcjudosambo hmmmm interesting. because when we do randori's (you know what i mean the 1v1) then it allways somehow ends up on the ground.. im pretty new to Jiu jitsu atm im doing JJJ.

  • @ulkord Sport BJJ or Self-Defense BJJ (e.g. Gracie BJJ)? or Both?

If you do Sport BJJ (for competition) it might contradict a few things you learn in JJJ. For example, in JJJ (just like in Judo) going to the ground is the last option and should be avoided unless the fight takes you to the ground and then you start utilizing the ground skills to subdue the opponent. In BJJ ithe main goal is to take the fight to the ground. So it all depends on your ultimate goal (sport vs self-defense).

  • @pcjudosambo what do you think of the combination JJJ and BJJ ?

  • @ulkord yeah. Both Aikido and Judo were born from JJJ and both Sambo & BJJ were born from old Kodokan Judo (pre Olympic). JJJ is the mother art. But, the evolution of Aikido, Judo, Sambo & BJJ took place and now these arts are separate and semi-different. Although, all share their base of techniques from JJJ nowadays they are each individual art with pluses and minuses in each art. That's why many choose to cross-train (BJJ with Judo) or (Judo with Sambo) or (BJJ With Sambo) so on and so on.
