Recently purchased the Egnater Tweaker head/cab and decided to try and make a demo video of the Tweaker's capability of reproducing clean tones similar to a Vox and a Fender. The Tweaker is touted as an amp with a tweakable voicings switch, enabling the user to achieve "classic" tones from classic brands. I thought I'd throw this together as my own little test.

Apologies if this is not a thorough enough, or valid way of demo'ing the gear. I'm not Yngwie Malmsteen nor am I Steve Spielberg, so you can expect me to fall short on all fronts if you're overly criitical. Regardless, feedback or criticism is appreciated.

To summarize, I felt like the Tweaker did a better job of reproducing my Fender's tone than it did with the Vox. In hindsight though, it would have been better if I could have played at louder volumes. I doubt I was getting anywhere near the sweet spots of these amps at the levels I was playing.

Hopefully someone gets a good idea about the amps in this video though, particularly the Tweaker. Thanks for watching.

  • Can you paly ina band with this amp? Drums, bass e vocals...

  • @tleaomurta I may be the wrong guy to ask this question of. I do not play in a band, and have never been able to see how this amp holds its own amongst numerous other instruments in that kind of setting. The 15w Tweaker is definitely capable of getting loud, I just think it might come down more to what type of music you're playing, and how the other band members are playing. It might come off a little thin compared to something else made for live performance situations. I'm no expert though.

  • Very useful demo for us looking for a small home amp that has classic clean seetings vox or fender. I am now wondering how good the H&K tubemeister 18 is compared to the Tweaker? any thoughts on that? do love the power soaker in the H&K for home use... wish Egnater would do the same

  • @D1STANTSUN I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the Tubemeister. I can't really offer any thoughts on that. All I can say is that I remain happy with the Tweaker. The vast majority of the time, I'm playing clean, and relying on pedals for any dirt. In this case, it functions well as a small, home amp.

  • I own a Vox AC15 and did the same test for myself - not on a video though since I lack the proper gear to do a decent recording.

I don't know about the Fender sound for sure (although a vibrolux setting on the Fender supersonic sounded really similar to my usa setting on the tweaker) but for the Vox I can speak. It does great Vox tones, although the "recommended' setting did not do the job very well. Try experimenting with the EQ and the bright/tight switches. You can nail the Vox tone!

  • @toondewachter Yes, I noticed my Vox still sounded a bit "tiny" even through the 1X12 cab. At higher levels, the tone would thicken a bit. You can tell immediately that the Egnater set to Vox suggested settings was noticeably fuller in sound. I'd like to do this again, but at higher levels, and I think that I'll get closer.

  • Cool! Nice demo. I love my Tweaker. If you spend some time with the tone controls, you should get a very close match. I haven't been able to get a single BAD tone out of the Tweaker yet, no matter WHAT the tone settings are!! Highly Recommend the TWEAKER!!

  • That was a great demo/review, and good reference tones to compare against your other amps. Thanks for posting!

  • Great tones through all of the amps, Egnater works great over all of this) Thanks for video man, but can you make the same samples with that Marshall?

  • Really great demo! I've just ordered an Egnater Rebel 20 and I'm pretty pumped about it getting here. I too have a marshall solid state that I've used for a long time, but I figured I should branch out a little bit into a different world of amps. I'm actually really enjoying looking into other Egnater amps besides the Rebel. Thanks for the demo!
