On June 23, eight of Mrs. Tammy Parks' broadcast journalism students from Howe Public Schools in Howe, OK traveled on a 9-day road trip to the National Educational Computing Conference in Washington, D.C. The students presented along the way to school districts about their use of student-created virtual field trips and collaboration projects. Parks' students were 1st place winners in CILCs Kids Creating Community Content contest (KC3) in 2008, and placed third and fourth place in the HS and MS 2009 KC3 contest respectively. The Howe students created a virtual field trip to the Fort Smith National Historic Site in Fort Smith, AR and presented live from the park to 4th and 6th grade students in Irasburg, VT. The students are featured in the June 2009, Technology and Learning Magazine as a cover story Better Than Being There.

"Your students hit a home run this morning during your presentation from Mt. Vernon back to our NECC workshop participants in Washington DC. We were excited to see the home of George Washington and connect with your students as they shared some interesting myths about our 1st President. I am always amazed by your students and their poise in front of the camera. They have a natural connection to the audience, from elementary students to administrators and teachers. I always walk away encouraged that education is impacting students in such a positive way not just in Howe, OK but around the US. Thanks for showcasing the accomplishments of these wonderful students! Kudos to the whole group." Bev Mattocks, Consultant / Project Manager
