You need to find a resistor to attach to the LED not a capacitor. A capacitor will store a charge and release it. The resistor will reduce current to prevent burning up your LED. If you wish to increase current or voltage you hook up your batteries either in series or parallel I forget which is which but hook em up that way and you will find out when you measure. For more info go to how stuff works search your question there. Great idea to use the earth for a light sure beats using a solar cell.

Thanks but that is not correct. Using nothing but a single super capacitor I can now light 400 leds from my set-up. Resistors waste energy in the form of heat. I do not want to waste energy, but use it efficiently. You can't hook up an earth battery in series to increase volts or parallel to increase amps without first isolating them from each other and by doing that, you cut down on the total power available. See my latest work under Pirate88179, home of Pirate Labs.

Thanks,

Bill

It's on my channel. I also posted a video of it running an 18" 15 watt florescent tube.

If you dont attatch the 2 rods with wire and just have the negative on the multimetre attatched to 1 earth rod and positive contact of the multimetre going into the earth between the 2 earth rods, you will get the same readings.

Maybe with the volt reading but not the mA levels.

By the way in this area the soil seems to be a poor conductor because is sand haven't been able to try in different grounds, but I am happy with the results...So there you have it experimenters in a nutshell all of the usefull details.......Remember is a gift from nature and if you used it wrongly it would turn around and bite you in the ass......it did hapened thousands of years ago to Aztecs Egyptians and Atlanteans

My joule thief lights up a 3.2 volt 25 mAh led with a 1.5 batery , the thief has 20 turns of magnetic wire around the ferrite core ....but it doesn't work with my battery
what do you think might be the reason?. best regards.

Amperage goes up with more magnesium blocks but what would you suggest to do in order to get 2 amps or more??
