I Don't Love You: Chapter 21

Sorry for late posting!! you still love me, right?

By 6:00 pm, I was exhausted but I tried not to show it. I wore nice dress, just right for the occasion. It was a small party, about 20 people total, including the band, the family and some friends. At about 6:30, Mr. Jonas announced that the boys were pulling up at the driveway. We all hid and waited.
When the door opened and we all yelled surprise, Im not sure who was more surprised: Me or Joe. Joe because of the party but me because right behind him, there was Kevin... and Arianna. Kissing. In front of all my friends and family.
I wanted to cry my eyes out. I wanted to run out of there and cry and cry. I wanted to punch her in the face. I did nothing but put on my best fake smile and prayed to God that my charade could hold out long enough, just for Joe, in honor of his birthday.
As people rushed up to welcome Joe, I stayed behind, perfecting my act. I looked myself in the hall mirror and worked on my smile until I saw Joes reflection next to me.
I turned and hugged him. "Congrats on living this long, Danger" I said.
He laughed. "You're actually the first to say that."
We pulled away from the hug and over his shoulder, I saw the happy couple once again.
I must have showed some emotion on my face because Joe said "I asked him not to bring the brat. He actually listened to me until we stepped on the porch, when she came walking up the steps as if it was her birthday, not mine." He grimaced. "Are you okay?"
I blinked away the tears and said "Yeah. I'm happy for him." My voice wavered on happy so he didn't quite believe me.
He hugged me again and I welcomed it. I looked at Kevin and he locked eyes with me. I swear I could see the hurt in his eyes. Just as he could see the hurt in mine.
We avoided ourselves for the rest of the night.
