1992 Olympic Pairs LP - Yelena Bechke / Denis Petrov

It's always nice when someone who is expected to fold.....doesn't! What a great moment was created by the 2nd place Russian team at the 1992 Alberville Olympics. Possibly overshadowed, but certainly not outdone by the brillance of Miskutenok/Dimitriev's "Song of Love", this pair captured the magic of Russian ballet to an umparalleled degree. They carried everyone away to a "Night at the Kirov", and stand to this day as, perhaps, the second most artistic pair program ever done.

They were married from 1990 to 1995, but they still skated together professionally after their divorce. Elena remarried an American in 2000 and has two children and coaches skaters in NC. Denis married 2 time Olympic bronze medalist and world champion Chen Lu and they have a son together. They live in China now, where they are directors at a brand new skating center. I'm happy they're doing well.

fit their personality. I hear they were

married once, but he is married to another

skater, and is a daddy. This was when skat-

ing was skating.

They skated to the Nutcracker Composed by Petr Illych Tchaikovsky. This was from ACT II Pas de Deux

Unmatched with their beauty and emotion on the ice. Second only to Gordeeva and Grinkov and Michelle Kwan with their hearts. I hope Denis and Elena realize how many hearts they touched with their skating.

I saw them live in 1997 and by then they had really hit their stride. They were smooth as glass, their lifts very dangerous and beautifully done. (Television gives you no clue how tiny she is.)
