As a history major, I can relate to the references to Austerlitz and the retreat from Moscow. This song reminds me of Al Stewart's hit from 1977, "Gates of Moscow" about the next dictator who tried to conquer Russia.

IMHO notable improvement over version on Golden Heart (thanks, Emmylou!) Blew us away live in Radio City.
