These are my two day old Convict Cichlid fry. I've had the parents for a week and a half, haha. I popped them in the tank and five days later, there were eggs, then three days later there were fry! I haven't tried counting them, but I'd say there's about 40-50 of them. They are as cute as a button. :) They starts to swim on their own today. The last couple of days, mom and dad would move them with their mouths from that little ornament, and move them about 6 inches away, in between all of those plants. They guard over them from the Gourami and the two JDC's. They leave the catfish alone, though...I think they know it's mentally retarded, hahahaha.

I'll probably do updates every few days, because I'm pretty excited about them. I expect they will be making more babies soon, though, haha.

I'm going to set up two extra tanks for the fry and use some of them to feed my axolotls, George Michael and Lady Gaga. The rest I will keep, or try and sell, or just give them away, it depends on how fast these two decide to procreate.

  • These babies are older than 2 days! At 5 days they are still huddled together and not swimming freely yet. This must be 2 days of swimming freely around the tank with the mother! Most likely around 7 days old.

  • @trwillard7 I think I know how old they were at the time...I was kind of...you know...watching them everyday? I had only had those Convicts for about 10 days. It was about 5 days later that the eggs were seen. They hatched 3 days laters. This video was taken 2 days later.

  • how do you tell the sex

  • The females will generally have pink on their sides. Also, males tend to me larger. And once the males get larger they get humps on their forehead.
