screws break when twisted and bent. nails will just bend. always use nails for this kind of thing.

I like to use ring-shank nails, that resist backing out. Of course, a screw here and there is nice. With the bendability and cheapness and ease of driving nails, plus a few screws for a tight hold, you can't go wrong. Keep in mind that if you plan on expanding the deck in a year or two when you can save the money, use screws only: Much easier to disassemble one end for expansion if you used screws.

Did they ever say how big this deck is?

@dragonnight812 In part #1 he uses a layout that says the deck is 16’ x 16’, although when you are building a deck you’ll have to design yours to meet your needs.
