Volvo's Blind Spot Information System

Large windows all around and effective rearview mirrors give you a good view. However, there are always blind spots. When another vehicle enters your blind spot, BLIS will alert you with a warning signal, giving you a better chance of keeping clear. And it even works in the dark.

The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) is particularly reassuring in congested and fast-moving traffic situations. Using rear-facing digital cameras installed in the door mirrors, it monitors the traffic on either side of the car. As a vehicle enters your blind spot, the system helps alert you with a discrete lamp built into the front door post on the approaching side of the car.

THERE AREN'T ALWAYS BLINDSPOTS! If you adjust your mirror properly there is no blind spot. This frustrates the hell out of me. If you can see the side of your car in your mirror you will have a blind spot. Move it out further and wow! What a surprise! You can see what's NEXT to you!

I believe the system scans your eye to see if you're actually looking in the rear view mirror - in order to prevent "false alarms" all the time. At least, that was the idea, as I recall. Bet the system can also tell if you're a replicant! LOL!
