Aaron Chung, a teacher at Temple Intermediate School in Rosemead, California, was surprised on December 6, 2007 with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award for being an outstanding teacher. Milken Family Foundation Chairman Lowell Milken made the surprise announcement in a schoolwide assembly, with dignitaries including California Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell and California Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero.
