Augustine Commission Zubrin finale and Squires on the superiority of human exploration

Dr. Robert Zubrin presented the case for a Mars Direct
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/mars_direct ) oriented space program to the Augustine Committee, a commission directed by the Obama administration to determine American policy with regard to human spaceflight and exploration. Following his testimony was the ONLY applause elicited from the audience by an speaker. Also included in this clip is the very warmly received testimony of Steve Squires on the superiority of human over robotic explorers. The clip concludes with a brief discussion of the current Mars option under consideration by the Augustine Committee.

China is already planning on manned trips to the moon. They have LOTS of money too.

The U.S. Could pay the Chinese for access to the moon. This would be more economical.

The Chinese are not stupid enough to go to the moon. They will develop asteroids and establish the infrastructure for Mars settlement. --Or hopefully someone will. : )

If anyone has video of commission members at the conclusion of Zubrin's testimony, when applause erupted, it would be worth posting. Several of them jumped in surprise. They were quite startled!

I really enjoy watching him speak. His inthusiasm is overwhelming. Zubring knows how to light up that fire of adventure in people.

I really wish they would take his words seriously and give them consideration.
