First stop, the washing station. We soap, scrub and rinse well with the shower head while sitting on little stools. Then over to a warm pool. SOAK and relax. Some pools may be hotter. Go in if you like. Some like to condition and rinse their hair after soaking, just before they leave. (Haven't made it to a real onsen. Just a Korean spa in LA. Q: How do you tell where the hottest water is?)
