the LAST THEFT is a stunning masterpiece of Czech 'new wave' filmmaking by master Czech animator JIRI BARTA.
on 11/1 2007, the film was shown on 35mm(!), and was accompanied live by San Francisco soundtrack stars SPOONBENDER 1.1.1, in SF's most grand historic movie theater, the Castro.
the Valerie Project was the other half of this czech-film/style halloween event.

this is the live show audio and video cut together with some vhs i had of the film (this is most of what you see.). you can occasionally see Dustin Donaldson and Cup (in the bottom right, orange/green backlit) performing the music. you can't tell from this (wish i could've been closer), but they wore these amazing clothes that looked like something out of Winsor McCay's LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND.

enjoy!

  • i love all the Spoonbender incarnations, but 1.1.1 is especially awesome.

  • awesome

saw it in prague six, seven years ago. never seen anything else quite like it. and, unlike many very odd animated/pixelated films, it's painstakingly well-crafted.
