Western society usually defines Art as 'therapy' in the areas of human service delivery and program development.
This tendency to pathologise and label human behaviour results in people being identified by their 'issues' and brokenness rather than being seen for their unique gifts and potential.

Year of counselling and therapy has not resulted in a more peaceful society enmasse...a society where people are experiencing the joi-de-vivre that life should be. The rise in mental health issues and youth suicide indicate that there are some things we are not getting right yet.

Counselling plays a significant role in assisting people to move on from the past but it is predominantly 'problem' focused.

In The Art of Change program we look at how art and creativity are powerful mediums for change, relaxation, fun and possibility!

We draw on the wisdom of Indigenous cultures , valuing the role of creative based practices and community / kinship systems over the competitive, individualised and problem pre-occupied system that is fraught with so many issues here in the West.

Unfortunately many people leave the western education system unfulfilled and dissatsified, a life far removed from the expansive Creativity they knew as children.

You can read about the "Magical Child in Exile" here;

I have developed an art-based training manual that accompanies the film and if you would like more information I can be contacted via my blog adress above.

Thankyou to Charmaine and Vicki for giving so much of your time and Spirit in making the film...
