Planting Rice in Laos

Here in the Sacramento Valley planes drop rice seeds into flooded paddies and presto, the rice begins to grow. If only Asian countries could be so lucky. It's actually rice seedlings that are being transplanted, and it's hard work. But the Lao, if they can work in a large group, make the hard work bearable with bantering back and forth, singing and always being positive. I like the sound of the girl's voice next to me as I shoot the video.

I wish I grew up in Laos, that way I could really know how much hard work my grandparents, mom, and the rest of my family dealt with. I have it tooo easy here in the US.

Why do people replant rice? This I don't understand --- Why not just let it grows instead of pulled it off the ground and replanted it?
