Is that Marvin Gaye on drums? He was an excellent Motown drummer.

I had fun singing along & pretending I'm a white Edwin Starr! Thanks!
I used to listen to the Starr version at night on KOMA, 'til they ruined it by adding some "fun" lyrics to it. Dumb DJs.
But sadly, they were the only station I could receive that played it at all.

I LOVE MOTOWN!

@xwsftassell NO!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, THE INSTRUMENTALS OF THE FUNK BROTHERS TAKE ON A WHOLE NEW DIMENSION WHEN IT'S JUST THEM
big fan of the 60s, 70s, BEATLES and THE FUNK BROTHERS

...this is definitely Babbitt on this one!

@ioxxd90 Yes, and Ric Tic's owner Eddie Wingate crashed the Motown Christmas party that year and paid them back double that fine....
-
@xwsftassell I agree with you, it is a matter of taste, I like both sides myself....A great showcase for the Funk Brothers either way!!

AGENT Double 00 Soul and RIC-TIC Records, Joined Into The MOTOWN RECORDS FAMILY STARS Singer's...!
This is The Funk Brothers' instumental track before Edwin Starr recorded the vocals . This was a bad ass song and deserved more airplay than it did !

Yeah, I much prefer the instrumental. To me, the vocal interferes with the mighty CRUNNNNCHHH of the rhythm section. Although I'm sure there are people that would disagree with me, at the end of the day, it's a matter of taste.
