NASA Pro Racing Northeast Region July 15, 2011. Round 3 of the NASA Pro Racing 2011 racing season. My first race of the year. Racing at Pocono Raceway using the NASCAR Long Course configured with the North Infield, NASCAR Turn 2 (Tunnel Turn), and NASCAR 24 degree banked Turn 1 running clockwise (CW).
The infield entry and exit are extremely challenging with numerous bumps. An especially violent catapulting bump is now present exiting the North Infield when running clockwise. Turn 1 banking is rough at best with plenty of challenge to find the best/smoother line.
Very jetlagged, I made it to the track on time, but missed practice with some tire drama. Nonetheless, I was able to qualify 1st in class (GTS-2). The very strong qualifying time placed me up towards the front in the grid as the race group was combined with all classes in one single race. The start was, well... funky, and I lost the lead after a brilliant move by the 2nd qualifier.
As the raced developed, several spins in front of me entering the infield put a damper on my charge to regain the lead and allowed the BMW to put some considerable distance between the two of us. Later in the race though, a spin caused by some traffic costs him the position and I take the win with strong closing laps to the Checkered Flag.
Thanks to Hoosier Racing Tires and RS Barn. Their products and services keep me winning. Look not further, buy Hoosier Tires, and reach out to RS Barn for all things Porsche 968 and 944.
