The flim is a sequel/pequel/remake.

It's funny how the younger actors treat him like the revered grandfather figure. Pine starts to say Nimoy, then switches to Mr Nimoy. Cute!

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I think they were trying to make a Trek film that appealed to everyone and not just the fans. It seems they may have succeeded.
