Liverpool's first Philosophy in the City festival began with a well attended event at the Metropolitan Cathedral. Simon Oliver of the University of Nottingham and the University of Liverpool's Clare Carlisle discussed the issue of habit. The two talked about whether habits, both good and bad, are the key to our happiness, or whether they prevent us from ever truly knowing ourselves. The lecture was followed by an open discussion in which the festival's organiser, Clare, and Simon, took questions from audience members.
