Dr. Steven Hoffman, professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University, is using cutting edge technology to help students understand key historical concepts. Hoffman structures his lessons around an interactive simulation that allows students role play as leaders of various countries in the conflict. The simulation encourages students to think critically about key historical concepts by experiencing the consequences of important decisions, and many find that they learn things they did not expect. It is one of many ways that Southeast is taking advantage of the latest technologies to provide students with an exciting and robust learning experience.

  • Great video on how the use of technology can really provide much needed historical context for students. I'm hoping to employ this in my high school classroom.

Anything that helps to engage students in critical thinking as opposed to just memorizing facts and dates is worth trying.
