the most logical reason for closing the southbound lanes would be that the drivers driving southbound would be distracted by the landing helicopter and thus would probably cause accidents on the other side.

If it were a normal citizen both lanes would remain open and there wouldn't have been a heli called!

Officer Ortiz died as a result of this crash. You angry internet nerds typing from a place of safety and obscurity should show a little more respect. Some motorists were inconvenienced for a few minutes while Officer Ortiz passed away.

@chino1127 ... Well, if they view the comment all the better. I am tired of overcompensated, self-serving "public employees," especially those who work in the public health and safety sector. Yes, there are some good people, but the majority are wretched parasites who cannot stand on their own two feet, so they take a public job. This kind of accident makes my day. Another one bites the dust. Do we get to name a section of the freeway for this guy, or did he come back for another day of work?

@DyslexicLunatic He didn't make it. He passed away as a result of complications directly related to this incident. Keep in mind that his friends and family may one day view this video and your comment.
