  • Having the same issue with our 2002 2.0L Jetta. MIL light goes on during or after rain when the car is cold. It never happens when the engine is warm.

Changed the MAF to no avail. It is the coil pack, most likely. Next time it happens, put your car in the garage (or a dark place), take a spray bottle with salt water and spray onto the coil pack with engine running. If you see loose sparks, you found the culprit. I'm ordering a new coil pack, even without recent misfires. Also, try OBDII reader!

  • @jerrykrecek I have an Elm 327 Bluetooth OBD reader but it doesn't give any more information than the standard p030_ misfire codes. I still have the problem intermittently but given the cost of the coil pack I'm not going to replace it just yet.

  • You ever figure out the issue?

  • @stelthblend It hasn't happened recently even in the rain so I'm not sure. I believe it's related to the ignition coil but am not going to bother replacing that until it happens again.

  • @acethakr The codes were "P0134" ("P1128" Bank 1 system too lean) "P0300" "P0304" "P0303. I installed the new Coil Pack today. The car started a little better, but it still looks and sounds the same, an obvious misfire issue, or so I think knowing not too much about cars, but I am talking to two different techs and reading up on the issue. I guess now I will change all the spark plug wires, plugs, and change the oil a few times to flush the system incase theres somthing clogged.

  • I recently purchased a 2000 jetta 2.0 with the same issue only its not going away (misfire codes) sputtering, engine bouncing around, I found a Coil Pack online for $40. I will be replacing it in a week when it comes in and I will report back with the outcome.

  • @JosephWDougherty You think it had anything to do with your intake?
