I'm not particularly a fan of Liza Minnelli, but I thought she knocked my socks off in Cabaret - arguably THE best musical ever to grace stage and screen.

At the Carnegie Centre in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, every Tuesday night was and is cabaret night where people could line up and sign up to play musical instruments or even sing, including electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, microphone for singers, and cabaret night at the Carnegie never ever ever ended in all the years without the song Honky Tonk Woman played at least once.

I went and saw yet another version of Cabaret last night and again the pathos in this song was completely overplayed. I love the tragedy in this song but even more so I love that Liza completely underplays it. After all she is a performer!
