I Used to believe that. After extensive testing and research I no Longer do. The 1860 usually has More power than the Remington and can shoot a lot longer with out, becoming, stuck or Cylinder Binding. Both the 1860 and Remington Revolvers have positive and negative attributes.

The remington 1858 is a MUCH better revolver.

@ImWatchinTheTube I've found on my repro Colt that they don't really stay all that well lying on the pins. I usually just load 5 bullets and keep the hammer on an empty cylinder.

OldEphram1 is correct. You should never lower the hammer from half cock on a single action revolver. Always go to full cock before letting it down.

My earliest is in exactly that condition and is serial number 7260.
Do the Colt cap and balls have the in-between nipple safety notches in the cylinder like the Remingtons do?
