Visit http://www.ksmusselman.com - Express Scribe is the most popular audio playback software for transcriptionists. This little video will show you how to use it!

NOTE: The video was done with an older version of Express Scribe. With the newer version, you don't have to select file types so you can just skip that option all together. I think in the newer versions the software just reads almost anything that can be considered an audio file. It even opens up and reads some of my video files too!

So not to worry; Express Scribe should be able to open anything. Just right click on the file you want to transcribe and click on Transcribe with Express Scribe or Open With and choose Express Scribe.

Alternately, you can launch Express Scribe first and then click on Load and select the file you want to load into ES.

I'm going to do a new video with ES as soon as I can and link to it from this one.

  • Geeze, the video doesn't show users how to turn actually transcribe audio files...

  • @failcube It's not supposed to. There's more to transcribing than just operating the software. You can type the information into any word processing program you want to use. This video is to show how to use Express Scribe, not how to put on your headset and how to type. "Geez." LOL

  • @ksmusselman The video doesn't show any of the integration abilities or actual use - it's a run through of the OPTIONS of the software. That's not a "how to use" tutorial

  • @failcube This is an earlier edition of Express Scribe and I plan to do another tutorial on the newer version in which I'll go through the rest of the features. :-)

  • Hi there.....I have just downloaded 'express scribe' to my computer after having just learnt to transcribe this morning at polytech. I'm just not sure how to actually get my files onto expresscribe. I wonder if you can help?? thanks.

  • @louleeloublue

You can load your files a couple of ways:

    1. Open Express Scribe, then click on File - Load Dictation File, then browse your files for the file to load

    2. Right click on the audio file and select Open With, then select the Express Scribe program.

    Hope this helps!
