Hubert Sumlin (November 16, 1931 -- December 4, 2011) performing Sitting On Top Of The World. The Great Blues Legend and Howlin Wolf guitarist at Antone's Blues 30th Anniversary celebration at KGSR FM "Blues On The Green" concert at Zilker Park - Rock Island in South Austin Texas. Clifford Antone gave Hubert Sumlin a Blues Legend introduction mentioning his years with Howling Wolf, playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan, going to England giving Eric Clapton and The Rolling Stones guitar lessons.
Antones 30th was just after Hubert was recovering from a severe medical problem having a lung removed. It wasn;t long after Clifford Antone was found dead in his condo. Clifford was a mighty fine guy and a very pleasant person to be around. I saw him at the hot dog stand on Guadalupe st. (the drag) by The University Campus just a couple of days before he passed on. I am so glad he took the time to talk with me for awhile.
Even though it was about a 100 degrees that day I am glad I stuck it out and filmed the concert thanks to a slew of ice cold budweisers. A camera in one hand and a beer in the other. Nothing better musically in my own opinion than a good blues concert in my hometown of Austin. Long live the blues baby.
The Antone Allstars Band include Roscoe Beck on Bass - Mark Kazanoff on Sax - Shawn Pittman on Guitars and Vocals - Johnny Moeller on Guitar - Jay Moeller on Drums
