One year after 9/11, we went to NY to profile seven survivors of the attacks. The Emmy-winning special, 9/11-America Remembers, originally aired on ABC7, Los Angeles.
This segment tells the story of William Rodriguez. At the time, he was a custodian at the World Trade Center. On 9/11 he was one of the only people who had a master set of keys to help people and firefighters in and out of the building.

It's unfortunate that the true hero story of Pablo Ortiz is not more widely known. Mr. Ortiz climbed to the 89th and 90th floor to break down jammed doors and let people out so that they could escape. He saved dozens of lives, and then died when the tower fell on him,
