Balance Board Mode is HARD, at least to me it initially was. Once you get it though, it works AMAZINGLY well, and it'll surprise you as to just how fleshed out it is. The left and right hand markers return in this mode as left and right punch icons. They work the same way that they did in HP2 in terms of response, but once again it's stricter on the timing. However, hip bumps seem to be given more leeway on the timing, same with the hip turns. With the turns, as long as you're within the ballpark of hitting all 4 directions during the turns in the proper direction you'll be OK. The difficulties are restricted to Basic and Difficult in this mode, but don't let that bother you. A lot of the charts are excellent, especially in the KO section, and the difficulty scales upward very well from the beginning of the licenses on toward the KOs. Some of the 5 and 6 flame KO's could pass for Expert IMO and will have you moving a lot more than you'd expect. Overall, it's an absolutely awesome new addition to the game, and if you have a balance board, I'd highly recommend giving it a go.
Hyper Move Mode actually works MUCH better than I expected it would. I've already AAAd 2 songs on this mode so far. The charts will take some getting used to if you're accustomed to HP1 and 2 since hand markers NOT only come at you in all four lanes now, they also require you to swing your arm in the specific direction that it asks for. What I like about this as opposed to the original way they
had it is that both hands are completely free to do the motion that comes up. You can use either one to do it, and with some of the charts you'll be required to do it that way in order to land all of the notes. The hand response is still very good, so aside from the boss songs and a couple others,
practice should get you good enough to hit them.
However, there's one MAJOR problem, and it's the biggest thing holding this mode back. It's TOO BASIC. Basic and Difficult once again are the only difficulties, but unlike Balance Board Mode, if you're already good at getting AAAs on Free Play and can work with hands on HP2 well, most of the Difficult charts (which unfortunately means a LOT of the licenses) will not be challenging enough. Even the KO section isn't really that much harder, as the average chart throws nothing but 4th notes at you as if Difficult was the equivalent of Free Play Basic. Overall, a major wasted opprotunity and the only real blemish on what's otherwise a superior package.
Roppongi Evolved is one of the BEST boss charts I've ever played! It's nice and hard, it's not STUPID, and it sounds GREAT! Kimono Princess is a bit harder, but still more sensible than Silver Dream. As for Pluto The First, I want to strangle whoever thought that chart was fit for pad.
Really nice presentation this year, easily the best of the three HP games! Routines look fantastic, and the graphic improvements continue to impress! Audio quality seems to be better this year, though I'll still hear subtle pops in some of the song previews sometimes. Also, on some of the more colorful backgrounds, it would be nice to have a screen filter option. Especially when you're using either note or rainbow arrow types. Mii backup dancers is a nice new addition.
A recent discovery was made that like HP2, some songs do require Gimmicks to be turned on in order to AAA a song. Unlike HP2 where 70% of the list required hands/gimmicks, I'd say only about 15% of the songs on Expert require gimmicks here. Don't know about the rest of the difficulties. It might irk some, but I don't have any real issue with it. Gives the game more challenge.
Overall, I highly recommend this year's game. It's easily the best DDR on Wii, and there's plenty of fresh content to sink your teeth into. I'd recommend it to beginners and experts alike since many of the licenses have great entry level charts while the rest of the charts offer some fun patterns and challenges for anyone who's experienced with the series. While Hyper Move Mode leaves a little to be desired, and I'm still left with the question of would it really kill them to add Edit Mode/Doubles/Online play/Challenge difficulty (especially the last two since the charts were already done for X2CS), Balance Board mode is an awesome new addition to the game with replay value all on it's own and helps uplift an already outstanding game. Overall, I'd say 9/10 as Konami has really went above and beyond this year. The effort is more than appreciated!
2012 edit: These days I'd probably say 8.5. It's still good, but the easier overall difficulty due to the omission of doubles/challenge charts kinda mangles it a bit.

@heartlessdanny Get a Wii and DDR II. It's arguably the best thing to cross the pond since Extreme 2.

So how many songs total are there in this version? Did u have to unlock all of those songs?

@BlackCaScorpio I think it's 60 tracks not including the lesson songs.

Whoa, didn't see the rest of this list and what the hell, KAMIKAZE PRINCESS! With Pluto The First and the two megamixes, that's a foot killer. You would need a team to complete that.

@trudecepticon Just when you thought this was about as difficult as it was going to get, DDR II pulls a fast one with it's final course. Can you pass 888 and Valkyrie Dimension with 4 other 17's and up in one go? What's even worse is that one of the songs in there is a LONG version.
