  • nitros or direct 3d? whats better?

  • @lightwave18 Loaded question... it depends who you talk to. Some people like Nitrous, some Direct 3D, but I think it's mostly depending on the hardware. I've been running Nitrous since I installed Max 2012 and haven't had any problems with it. I'm using a Quadro FX 4600 graphics card and it handles the job pretty well.

  • hi. not sure if this is a problem or not but just looking at ur veiwports they say smooth+highlighted and im busy doing the modeling an airplane tutorial for 3ds max. it also says press f3 to set all four view ports to smooth+highlights but when i press fe mine just swaps between realistic and wireframe. even when i manually try to change them via the + symbol there is no option for smooth of highlights. cheers for any help. just curious

  • @AccentJustice

sounds like you are using 3ds Max 2012 and the tutorial was captured in 3ds Max 2011.

No matter, you can still work in Realistic mode but if Shadows and Ambient Occlusion are impeding your modeling work, you can turn them off by clicking Realistic > Configure... and disable these two options in the dialog's bottom right corner.

    Cheers.

  • Hi again, Now I have a new problem with the align tool. When I press x y or z position for aligning the object on the screen it doesn't do anything. I watched some tutorials on youtube an i do the same thing but for me it doesn't do anything. It is very strange. Is it also a problem with my grafics card? I do for example mirroring an i don't have any problem. Very strange ?

  • I'm pretty sure this is not related to your graphics card. I suggest you try it again in a new scene. Reset 3ds Max (File > Reset) and try something very simple, such as creating two boxes or two teapots. Then select one object and align it to the other. If this doesn't work, then you definitely have a weird problem on your hand but if it works with this simple setup, then the problem can be your scene or your workflow. Could be your coordinate system is out of whack, could be a million things.

  • @AccentJustice dont worry i changed the nitros to direct 3d and works fine now :)

  • I am working on a jet plane and when I apply it to the plane-object the image is very dissorted/fussy so I follow this guys intructions to check/tick the [match bitmap as close as possible] and [match bitmap size as closely as possible] then I save my work and close 3DS-MAX, I open the project again and the image still the same and then I notices that those 2 boxes are unchecked again. no matter how many times I repeat this..when I open it again they are unchecked.

  • what should be the dimensions of the reference, cause my is just 362 x 682, what site can I get a reference...???

  • Great tutorial! Are you Hungarian?
