A poem about the Romani Gypsy's of Europe

The gentle Gypsy
(Dream for me)
Ian Pourchot

We'd plead for bread but not tonight,
Because suffering to us is a beautiful sight.
But not for me, for I shall not lie,
I long to see the spacious sky.
I want to swim the Erie lakes,
And kiss the face that money makes.
I want to make my forefathers smile
And sing to the boys I sweetly beguile.
I want to abolish these vulgar rules
And bathe my body in gems and jewels
COME LADS! See the beauty that is me—
Beautiful and gentle Gypsy.
Pour your eyes upon me,
And let me breathe life among thee.
Dark and eerie as I may seem,
Spit and poverty is all I see.
Dream for me, please!
Dream for a gentle Gypsy.
Belle fille gitane.
