Who else looked for this band after "That 70's show".
-
Saw them 2 nights in a row in '77 and once again a couple years later. Hate to say it, but either I was caught in a tailspin or CT was never able to capture the magic of their first effort again, cuz none of their subsequent records measure up to the debut album. Hot Love was the most popular among my friends, but I'm a twisted sum beetch and Ballad of TV Violence will always be my CT favorite.

god damn, their 1st 3 albums plus budokan and dream police are really rippin fuckin albums.....

This is rock & roll the way God intended.

If you listen to this, and then some of the more recent versions, it's obvious that this is right, and the rhythm sections have of late speeded up. I can't believe more bands don't notice they do this, or maybe they think they're making up for age? Just go back, listen to the orig, and leave it as it was - perfect.

Sounds as fresh and ripping as the first time I heard it. Way ahead of their time.

@TrickyTolles64 - agree. think it's their absoltely best album. punk meets beatles. love it.... still so fresh
Cheap Trick '77' is the greatest debut Rock'N'Roll album ever. It is pure dreamy, pop-punk, written with a sense of humor and expert musicianship. It is subversive and startling. Listen to it with headphones on and you'll hear things on some sort of deeper than hell sub harmonic level of pure vivacity.
Jack Douglas knew what made the boys tick, and expertly caught it. No Trick album since this debut has been recorded/engineered like this one. 'Too raw' was how it was described by Epic in '77.
