Thanks for a nerd update - wonderful! I still am of the opinion that a German orchestra will feel Beethover more deeply than others. So, the conductor is important but not all-important.

Very interesting! After hearing Paavo Jarvi's cycle, I didn't think I'd be interested in hearing anybody else doing these pieces but after all of Chailly's incredible recordings with Gewandhaus, I really can't wait.
And for all of you nerds that pulled out your scores to find the Beethoven 5 quote in Eroica, I guess Chailly misread his notes - it actually comes in bar 207. Went through all my recordings after heading this interview and it's fairly clear in Zinman's. Very interesting!
