Technically, you are right, as he does play the double bass. But in this vid, he is playing the (slide) guitar, Camera left of Win. Tim does more bass work than Richard does [Live shows at least].

They can really create wonderful drama through their songs. The SNL peformance of this song stands out as one of the best I've ever seen on the show. Goosebumps.
