I am a big skeptical about using lower bit rates. To me, the higher bit rate, the better. Unless, the processing speed is so great, that the loss of data is lower with MPEG-4 than it is with MPEG-2. MPEG-4 was originally designed for streaming video on the internet, YouTube being the best example. I wouldn't write off MPEG-2 just yet, though. Sony HDV is still a viable fromat. I am a big fan of Panasonic as a company, but they push they do with AVCCAM seems a bit too desperate, no?
